This meets the mark !

The book started out the way it should have; going through hard definitions like "right" vs "left", key terms such as power,nationalism etc. The insets that provide definitions and the many national profile sections ,which are very uniform (making for easy comparisons)make it apt for classroom use. Although the text brings the reader into to an exciting intro I might say that the reading gets a wee but dry during some parts, but that is only my personal taste.The last section -political economy revs things up again making for an explosive finale. While it delves deeply into topics such as the patronage systems which are still a mainstay in many illiberal democracies, i feel that it shies away from topics like the revolving door in American politics.I'll allow for the excuse that this edition was published in 2007 when that issue was still relatively obscure. All in all a great work for one seeking a grounding in the basics.

An excellent entry level text.

I'm almost certain that most who buy this book will do so out of necessity but it is a great text for any entry level comparative government class. That being said, my only critique is that there is a necessity for a newer edition as some of the information is fairly dated.

Packed with art and comments plus a bonus making-of DVD. Highly recommended.

[[VIDEOID:mo1YQRT74GFJCNF]]It's great that publisher Udon has translated the original Japanese artbook ベヨネッタ設定資料集 (The Eyes of Bayonetta). The Japanese edition went out of stock pretty quickly and the DVD was region coded to Japan.

So what's the difference between the Japanese and English edition?

The English edition is a hardcover book and comes with a DVD that's not region coded. Cover art is different. What's missing are the slipcase and the two posters featuring the bosses. The two posters are quite good so it's too bad they weren't included here.

Since the book is just a translated edition, the review that follows is largely adapted from the review of the Japanese edition artbook.

The Eyes of Bayonetta is the official artbook for Bayonetta, one of the crazier Japanese games I've played. It features concept art for the characters, Angels, Infernal Demons, weapons, accessories and environment.

This is mainly a character design book with designs. You'll see Bayonetta, Jeanne, Enzo, Rodin, Luka, Cereza, Balder and other characters. There are lots of coloured sketches as well as high resolution character graphics, featuring plenty of poses and costumes including many discarded ideas. Costume design is definitely one of the highlights. Notes and artists' scribbles are all translated.

This game has some really unique and exquisite enemy designs. The concepts are out of the world, mixing angels and demons with extra shiny metal. The designs are intricate and requires some time to explore, although sometimes there can be too much things going on, which can get confusing visually.

If you like weapon designs, there's a whole chapter on it. There are guns, blades, claws and torture weapons. I love the weapons in this game. They look stylish and incredibly powerful.

The chapter on environment art is a bit limited considering there are more sets featured in the game. However, the art is beautiful and detailed. There are buildings, architecture, vehicles, statues and all those design elements on walls and pillars.

The DVD has 73 minutes on the making of Bayonetta. This is one of the rare video game artbooks that come with a making-of DVD so it's a fantastic bonus.

Highly recommended to fans of the game and those who like the art style.

A Bewitching Artbook

The artbook lives up to the quality as expected from Udon Entertainment. The Eyes of Bayonetta comes in a glossy hardcover and uses semi-glossy paper with stitch binding. Also included is a behind the scene DVD (about 73 minutes long) which discusses the developers' design decisions and thoughts when making the game.

Inside the artbook, you can find concept arts and alternative costume designs for many of the characters/enemies as well as weapons. There isn't too many concept arts or artwork of the different locations.

Overall, it's a solid artbook for Bayonetta fans.

I purchased this for my daughter for her birthday because she is a huge fan of the game and is an art major. I sat and looked at the entire book with her and was amazed at the details. The art is beautiful in itself, and it explains in detail about the characters,weapons, and settings in the game. She absolutely loves it. Money well spent if your a fan or know one.

About the Author
Gerard J. Tortora is Professor of Biology and former coordinator at Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey, where he teaches human anatomy and physiology as well as microbiology. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his master's degree in science education from Montclair State College. He is a member of many professional organizations, such as the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAS), National Education Association (NEA), and the Metropolitan Association of College and University Biologists (MACUB).

Above all, Jerry is devoted to his students and their aspirations. In recognition of this commitment, Jerry was the recipient of MACUB's 1992 President's Memorial Award. In 1996, he received a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) excellence award from the University of Te4xas and was selected to represent Bergen Community College in a campaign to increase awareness of the contributions of community colleges to higher education. Jerry is the author of several best-selling science textbooks and laboratory manuals, a calling that often requires an additional 40 hours per week beyond his teaching responsibilities. Nevertheless, eh still makes time for four or five weekly aerobic workouts that include biking and running. he also enjoys attending college basketball and professional hockey games and performances at the Metropolitan Opera House.

Bryan Derrickson is Professor of biology at Valencia community College in Orlando, Florida, where he teaches human anatomy and physiology as well asgeneral biology and human sexuality. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from Morehouse college and his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Duke University. He has served as a member of the Faculty Senate, which is the governing body of the college and as a member of the Faculty Academy committee (now called the Teaching and Learning Academy), which sets the standards for the acquisition of tenure by faculty members. Nationally, he is a member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and the National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT).

Bryan has always wanted to teach. Inspired by several biology professors while in college, he decided to pursue physiology with an eye to teaching at the college level. He is completely dedicated to the success of his students. He particularly enjoys the challenges of his diverse student population, in terms of their age, ethnicity, and academic ability, and finds being able to teach all of them, despite their differences, a rewarding experience. His students continually recognize Bryan's efforts and care by nominating him for a campus award known as the "Valencia Professor Who Makes Valencia A Better Place to Start." Bryan has received this award three times in the past six years.

Fabulous!

This text is awesome for all massage therapy students! It has what you need to know without being overwhelmingly in depth. I have taken 3 anatomy and physiology classes total and have used this version and Tortora's 5th edition. As a massage therapy student I found this book to be much more pertinent and interesting for my profession.

I bought this book as a gift for my sister who is thinking she would like to do massage....we can't get her out of book! I was the same way when it arrived to me. Easy to understand, flows with great detail and answers the questions in plain English.

A manual therapist's tome

You can't go wrong with this text. Between the real life applications, well placed graphics and tables this text is very comprehensive yet user friendly. The chapter tests and outlines at the end of the book are an incredible study tool for exams.I highly recommend this text.

What crazy cases! Is this what it is like for all private investigators?
I found it amazing to follow along as Leanne just unveiled more and more and more almost unbelievable facts and interviews. Totally bizarre stuff that had me at times laughing out loud, other moments shaking my head in outrage. This stuff really happens?! Yes, apparently all of it is true, right out of her case files and the inquest evidence.
All in all, a most entertaining read. More, please!

If you want to solve a real cold case P.I. Leanne Jones gives you all the clues. Now it is up to you to solve a 30 year old mystery. It will keep you guessing trying to find the missing pieces of the puzzle. Well written and intriguing from cover to cover.

I ordered from Amazon and received a paperback copy of this book.

I have to say the story drew me in so that I read it in a couple of days! I liked the writing style...just the facts ma'am. I felt like I was reading P.I. notes and had an "inside" to the story. Also, the local references made me look at the map more than a couple of times wondering if I'd ever been close to some of the areas that were discussed in the book!

Of course I wished that the cases were solved in the end and I hope new clues are uncovered as a result of your writing the book.
