Major Misprint Error in Book

I most likely will be unable for reimbursement since this book was purchased June 2012. I bought course books for the upcoming school year. The course for this particular book started mid February. It wasn't discovered until a few days ago that it is missing pages 79-110, inclusive. What should be page 79 starts as page 111 and carries through to page 142... where it repeats page 111 and finishes appropriately to the end. I had presumed the book to be complete and without errors. My advice for anyone purchasing new/used books for school: Make sure the material IS complete and without misprints or other errors. I would not put this book up for resale, but know it will go to be recycled for the paper content.

About the Author
Thomas E. Patterson is Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press in the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He was previously distinguished professor of political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University. Raised in a small Minnesota town near the Iowa and South Dakota borders, he was educated at South Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota, where he received his Ph.D. in 1971. Currently running the "Vanishing Voter" study at the Kennedy School of Government, which has been widely used in the media and on college campuses, Tom is also the author of six books and dozens of articles, which focus primarily on the media and elections. His book, 'Out of Order'(1994), received national attention when President Clinton said every politician and journalist should be required to read it. An earlier book, 'The Mass Media Election'(1980), received a 'Choice' award as Outstanding Academic Book, 1980-81. Another of Patterson's books, 'The Unseeing Eye'(1976), was recently selected by the American Association for Public Opinion Research as one of the fifty most influential books of the past half century in the field of public opinion. His current research includes a study of White House communication and a study of the news media's role in Western democracies. His work has been funded by major grants from the National Science Foundation, the Markle Foundation, the Smith-Richardson Foundation, the Ford Foundation and the Pew Charitable Trusts.

No Registration Code to do Online HW

I rented the e-book version to save money buying the book and the e-book kindle is nice and all there. However, I need a registration code that is required to sign in with McGraw-Hill Connect, so that I could do my online homework for my political science class. The rental didn't come with this registration code which looks something like this: GRFU-BYHA-6MYJ-FGMK-F9XA. It's unfortunate to have to pay so much to get my HW done :(

PF Fox PhD DScPatrick Fox is Professor Emeritus of Food Chemistry in University College, Cork, Ireland. �His research over the last 55 years has focussed on dairy chemistry and biochemistry with emphasis on milk proteins and enzymes. �He is the editor or author of a large number of publications which have become highly cited.
PLH McSweeney PhD DScPaul McSweeney is Professor of Food Chemistry in University College, Cork, Ireland. �The overall theme of his research is dairy biochemistry with particular reference to factors affecting cheese flavour and texture. �He is the co-author or co-editor of a number of books on dairy chemistry and cheese science in addition and research papers and reviews.
T.P. Guinee, PhDTimothy P. Guinee is a Principal Research Officer in Food Chemistry and Technology at Teagasc Food Research Centre, Moorepark, Fermoy, Cork, Ireland and adjunct professor at University College Cork. His interests include the study of the rheology and functional properties of composite high protein food matrices, and the exploitation of these properties in food manufacture and assembly/formulation, with particular emphasis on gels and cheese-based systems.�

Blinded by Science

Very in-depth book on cheese-making. This is for the professional who is trying to learn the intricacies of milk, and cheese-making. A thorough background in biology and chemistry is needed. I have a year of so, of both, with a little micro (3-4 years ago), and I'm struggling to read this book, half of which I really don't understand. Have never made cheese, but want to make it well when I do make my first pound or two.

In the end, don't buy this book if you're not a biology science major interested in milk and cheese, if you need to know what makes milk and cheese tick, I'd have to say this book is for you.

Same sex unions performed by the Orthodox Church--holy sh*t!

I am neither an academic or religious, but as a gay man, I was surprised and happy to learn that there is a precedent for a same sex marriage service in the orthodox church. This book clearly lays out the context of how same sex practices were viewed (and tolerated) in Byzantium, through thorough historical research. The author, who was an Orthodox priest and a homosexual, shares his intimate knowledge of the church and liturgy as well as his own experiences as a gay man committed to the precepts of the Orthodox church. Religious institutions change notoriously slowly, but this book gives one the hope that there may very well come a day when same sex unions will be fully sanctified. It's an inspiring read not only for religious scholars, but for anyone who is struggling to integrate their religious beliefs and their sexuality-- or for anyone who believes that whoever we fall in love with, that commitment should be honored and welcomed by all.

I am extremely impressed with the thoughtful writing and thorough research presented in this book. As someone who is fairly new to religion I have been very skeptical in my reading; many books fail to provide clear references and I do not want to be led by opinion. The way the book is structured, with in-text citations and extensive referencing allowing me to feel confident in the factual basis of the writing. The author very wisely separates his own reflections for the reader so that we also have the opportunity view this material from his unique perspective. It is interesting to read this work in context of our current political climate and given the authors life experiences as noted in the introduction. I highly recommend this book.

San Antonio College where she spent eight years on the all-college general education committee and then served as chair of the music department for the following ten years. During a yearlong sabbatical in 2007-2008 she studied women composers and compiled biographies, recordings, and listening guides, which she made available to her colleagues to help them add more women to their music appreciation and history classes. As a performer, she has a degree in classical guitar from California State University at Fullerton. She toured in Southern France and Tuscany, playing lute with an early music group led by her late, first husband Andrew Charlton and his friend Gloria Ramsey, both well known in the field of early music. Calkins also played percussion and toured in Japan with the CSUF Wind Ensemble. She got her M.A. in music history and has continued with further graduate study in that same field. As a teacher, she started the guitar program at Mt. San Antonio College, where she continues to teach music history, music appreciation, and history of rock music. Her first book, Rock Music Styles: A History, is now out in its sixth edition, published by McGraw-Hill Higher Education. Experience Music is her second book.

The book is fine, the CDs are awful.

The book by it self is fine, good info, fairly interesting. The CDs are a nightmare though. Songs are split into several, sometimes 5 or 6, files, making it a nightmare to listen to in anything other than a CD player (i.e. Computer) CD 1 does not have the info, and finding the names of the tracks is a nightmare, there doesn't seem to be a simple track list anywhere in the book.

This book is worthless without the code

This item was purchased new from Amazon but came without the special code needed to take tests and quizzes online. My son called the publisher, McGraw Hill, who said the code should have been inside the front cover. It wasn't. We had to pay another $50 to McGraw Hill to purchase a valid code so my son could go online to take the tests and quizzes. I feel that Amazon owes us a $50 refund - the cost of the code!!! This was a deceptive ripoff.

Great Textbook, easy to read

This textbook was very easy to read, with font that didn't hurt my eyes. Also, lots of pictures that made the text somewhat more interesting. The listening CD's included have snippets of music, not the whole tracks, but they work very well...a little hard to get out of their packaging though. I would recommend that all music classes use this textbook, as it was not dry and boring.
